Area Representative

This term
Area representatives help expand a franchise by recruiting and supporting franchisees in a specific region.

An area representative, sometimes called a regional developer, acts as a local extension of the franchisor, responsible for recruiting, onboarding, and supporting new franchisees within a designated area. They may also provide operational support, field training, and act as a liaison between the franchisor and local operators. In exchange, area representatives typically earn a portion of the franchise fees and royalties from the units they help manage. This model is ideal for individuals with strong leadership, sales, and operational experience who want to play a larger role in franchise expansion without owning all the units themselves.
